Girls on the Run Georgia is celebrating 25 years of inspiring confidence in girls across Georgia, and each month, we’re spotlighting supporters who have played a crucial role in shaping our council.
This month, we’re proud to spotlight the Girls on the Run Young Professionals Board (GOTR YPB). Founded in 2016, GOTR YPB provides a leadership volunteer opportunity to individuals who are passionate about our mission, but may not be able to coach due to time constraints or would prefer to dedicate their time to serve the organization outside of coaching.
"I could never make my schedule work for coaching but really wanted to support GOTR. I love the mission and wish I had a program like this when I was younger. I want the program to be accessible to any girl who wants to participate - money shouldn’t be a factor. Since the YPB primarily raises awareness about and money for the program, it seemed like the best way for me to get involved. It’s also been a great way to meet other people who have similar interests and to get to know the amazing GOTR staff." said Alli Barfield, YPB member.
Comprised of passionate professionals representing diverse races, ethnicities, socioeconomic statuses, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, perspectives and life experiences, all share a commitment to the Girls on the Run mission, vision, and core values. Several members are proud program alumni, carrying forward the valuable lessons they learned as participants.
GOTR YPB members support the organization through volunteering, fundraising, networking, and community engagement, serving as vital advocates for Girls on the Run. They help raise awareness of our mission among those who may not yet be familiar with our work, including individuals without children, those with children younger than 3rd grade, and those outside the education or youth development fields.
GOTR YPB members also acts as a pipeline for the Girls on the Run Georgia Board of Directors, with many going on to serve as board and committee members. In fact, two current members of our Board of Directors were once part of the Young Professionals Board.
Over the years, the GOTR YPB has raised more than $175,000 to support our work and have also brought valuable introductions to individuals, groups, and companies who now support Girls on the Run. Their commitment to our cause is also reflected in the countless hours of service they’ve dedicated to support us.
This year, the group is planning the second annual Girls on the Run Georgia Pickleball Tournament Open presented by Shamrock Building Systems. This fun, community-driven event raises crucial funds for the Girls on the Run Georgia Scholarship Fund, ensuring that every girl has the chance to participate in Girls on the Run, regardless of financial barriers. Join them next Saturday, March 22 at ITA Atlanta as a player, a spectator, or a sponsor. Your involvement helps empower girls and makes a lasting impact on their futures.
Play Pickleball and Support Girls on the Run on March 22!
We’re grateful for the continued dedication of the GOTR YPB, whose efforts have played a significant role in making Girls on the Run the impactful organization it is today.
