Georgia on Our Mind: Expanding to Girls on the Run Georgia!

Girls on the Run participants in pink shirts at the end-of-the-season 5K smiling together.

Since our founding in 2000, more than 40,000 girls and gender-expansive youth have participated in our program, which creatively uses physical activity to help teach valuable life skills, including managing emotions, resolving conflict, helping others, and making intentional decisions. What started as a community in greater Atlanta has expanded into parts of North Georgia, Athens, the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), Golden Isles, and beyond.

At Girls on the Run, we have a responsibility to help remove barriers to access and provide inclusive, equitable programs for participants from all backgrounds and communities. Now more than ever, it’s critical that EVERY girl has access to our transformative program. It’s also essential that our name, Girls on the Run Georgia, reflects the communities we currently serve and those we look forward to reaching in our ongoing expansion efforts.

This expansion allows us to remain committed to our mission of inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. We are dedicated to providing high-quality programming that helps participants develop competence, feel confident in who they are, enhance their character, respond to themselves and others with care, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make meaningful contributions to their communities and society.

To celebrate the end of another amazing Girls on the Run season, we invite you to join us on Saturday, December 7, at Piedmont Park for our celebratory 5K. Visit https://www.girlsontherunga.org/5k for details.
